How the new Facebook Pages layout will benefit your small business
Last week Facebook rolled out a new layout for Facebook Fan Pages, and the internet is sure a-buzz about it. In case you haven't been keeping up with the gossip, the general consensus is that the layout is cleaner and the new page design is beneficial to businesses and brands.
Here's how your small business's new Fan Page will benefit you. (Sidenote: If you haven't upgraded to the new Page layout already, your page will automatically be upgraded on March 1, so might as well get used to it now!)
Move business-to-business networking online
If you log into Facebook and visit your Fan Page, you'll see a "Use Facebook as [your business name]" link on the right-hand side. This means you can visit other Fan Pages and post on their Wall as your business, not as yourself.
This is a great way to do some networking, and to support other local businesses. Say, your taco restaurant has a local tortilla chips producer. You could post on their Wall that customers love their new lime tortilla chips -- complimenting and supporting their business, while reminding their fans that your restaurant carries their chips. It's a win-win situation!
Time to whip out your camera!
Now, the pictures from your business's photo albums aren't hidden on a tab or below-the-fold on your Fan Page; they're at the very top! The benefit here is that Facebook users prefer to see photos and videos over plain-text messages and status updates -- and now your Page will meet their preferences. That is of course, unless you don't have any photo albums. So essentially, this new feature will force you to create photo albums, and share your photos often. Think of Facebook as a strict mother who just knows what's best for you! Be the king of customer service
It used to be that if a fan posted on your Page's Wall, you might not notice until the next day -- at which point a response might be irrelevant or even insulting. This could especially get your business in trouble if the fan happened to post about a bug on your website or some other customer service issue. Getting a response 36 hours after the fact is like no response at all!
Fear not -- now you can set up email or text message notifications when fans post on your business's Wall, comment on posts, comment on photos or any other action a fan could take. Responding to a customer service issue 4 minutes after it's posted? Now that's stellar customer service! Are you happy with the new layout & tools for Facebook Fan Pages? Why or why not?
