Caviar Kid? More like Caviar Mom: A lesson in knowing your audience
Take the Caviar Kid snack packs created by California Caviar. Offering two varieties, the Caviar Kid set includes two jars of sustainable caviar, organic creme fraiche, either mini puff pastries or Whale Tails organic corn chips, a child-sized caviar spoon and a 100% recycled lunch cooler.
California Caviar states that Caviar Kid will "introduce younger palettes to the delicious, nutritional powerhouse caviar."
Now let's stop right there -- when I was a kid, I would have never, EVER eaten caviar, whether it was on a fish-shaped cracker or drenched in chocolate on top of a banana split -- no way!
Do the California Caviar people know how picky kids are? What are they thinking? Good luck marketing this product! We laughed and snapped a photo of their offering, and continued exploring the Fancy Food Show.
An Interesting Discovery...
However, yesterday I decided to do a little digging and was utterly shocked. I had expected to uncover blog posts like mine -- but instead was overwhelmed with with positive press and media attention these special snack packs were getting from none other than… mommy bloggers!
"These Caviar Kid gift packs are so cute. In addition to the caviar, they come with your pick of a t-shirt or bib (organic cotton of course), a cute little faux mother of pearl spoon…" gushes Alisa on Sweet Peas & Stilettos.
On ParentDish, Honey Berk writes "all packed in a reusable cooler that features games and fun facts about ocean conservation and sustainable food."
Even non-mommy bloggers discuss the ingenuity behind Caviar Kid; the Food Channel writes "aimed at exposing children at an early age to healthy, sustainable seafood… With the highest concentration of 43 essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and protein than any other seafood, meat or poultry product, caviar delivers outstanding health benefits."
Let's recap. Caviar Kid is no longer an absurd snack pack for the perfect child, but it's actually...
Cute
Organic, recycled, re-usable, you-name-it
A great way to teach your child about sustainable fishing
Is in itself an experience: With the caviar and crackers, games and "fun" facts, a free t-shirt and reusable cooler -- it's like Christmas!
Packed with essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and protein
Did we mention it's cute?
Caviar Kid is literally a mom's dream come true. It's nutritious, educational and adorable.
Who cares that 99% of children hate caviar. They're not the ones forking over $48 for these special little snack packs….
